Christoph Baumgarten (*2000 in Halle/Saale) studied composition in Weimar with Michael Obst and Ulrich Kreppein and is currently continuing his studies in Leipzig with Fabien Lévy. He has also received important artistic impulses from Malika Kishino, Gordon Kampe, Jay Schwartz, as well as from Unsuk Chin and Dieter Ammann at the Lucerne Festival. A recipient of a scholarship from the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes, he has in recent years composed a number of works for diverse instrumentations, performed by ensembles and orchestras such as the MDR Symphony Orchestra, the Kiel Philharmonic Orchestra, the International Ensemble Modern Academy (IEMA), Ensemble Ascolta, and Ensemble Modern.
